The acting Prime Minister and the chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has stated that the meeting with the chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, has not yet produced a political agreement, although, according to him, the talks were held in an open and honest atmosphere.

After the meeting, Kurti said that the discussions were focused on the difficulties for the constitution of the institutions of the 11th legislature.

“The meeting was open, honest. We talked about the difficulties of the constitution of the 11th legislature, we still don’t have a political agreement,” said Kurti.

He emphasized that, despite the oath of the 120 deputies of the Kosovo Assembly, the country needs a political agreement that would ensure institutional stability and avoid holding new parliamentary elections.

The 120 deputies who represent the will of the people expressed in the early elections of June 7. I am convinced that for stability ahead, which also means avoiding new parliamentary elections, which obviously would be unnecessary, unreasonable and even harmful to the state budget and the country’s economy, it is not possible other than without an agreement on the issue of the election of the president or the new president”, he said.

According to Kurt, the experience so far has shown that without an agreement on the election of the president, the institutions may again face a blockade, which, according to him, may lead to the dissolution of the Assembly.

“So, in the conditions when we elect the president and the presidency of the Assembly, we elect the new government of the Republic of Kosovo, but we come again to the problem of electing the president, this is a formula already tested and with the same methods we cannot have other results. This will inevitably lead to the dissolution of the Assembly. The expectations are different, the positions do not match and it is my conviction that there is a drastic difference between the election result and the requirements of the Democratic League of Kosovo.
