Belgrad – Ivica Dacic says Albania filed an official request for UNESCO’s Executive Council to put Prishtina’s request to join on the agenda of its October session.
In addition to Albania, the request was backed by 44 other UNESCO member states out of the total 195, but it does not mean that the request will actually make it onto the agenda, the Serbian foreign minister told the RTS late on Friday..
Dacic said that the battle against Kosovo’s admission to UNESCO will be a tough one.
“We are ready for that fight. I think that all the reasons for us to be against this and the reasons against taking such a decision are absolutely on our side,” the minister noted.
He noted that, according to formal law, Kosovo has no right to be an UNESCO member because the United Nations has not only never made such a proposal, but has also declined to support Kosovo’s proposal./B92/
