Why do Asians use chopsticks to eat?

There are a number of factors why Asians use chopsticks to eat, and their history dates back thousands of years to China, perhaps around 5,000 years ago. These sticks, at that time, are believed to have been used only for cooking.

One factor that contributed to this change was the large population growth across the country.

Consequently, resources, especially for cooking, became extremely scarce.

As a result, people began to cut their food into small pieces in order to cook it faster, writes TodayIFoundOut.

The popularity of using chopsticks in China can also be attributed to the time of the philosopher Confucius, who was against violence and did not like pointed objects to be present when eating.

His disdain for the knife led him to look for alternative items that would do the job, and the sticks, with their “cut” tips, proved to be much more appealing to his gentle nature.
