Ankara – The governor’s office in Turkey’s capital Ankara has said that 27 people have died and 75 people were wounded in a terror attack at 6.45 pm local time (1645 GMT) on Sunday.

Ambulances rushed to the area to help the injured and took them to nearby hospitals, officials said.

The blast which was caused by a car bomb detonated by a suicide attacker occurred near the central Guvenpark, which adjoins a major transportation hub of bus and minibus stops, and the central metro station.

Security officials said initial findings pointed terrorist PKK or its affiliated groups to be behind the terror attack.

Security forces evacuated the area in case there is a second blast, and set up a secure perimeter.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with Interior Minister Efkan Ala over the phone, who briefed him on the incident shortly after the explosion.

Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is holding a security meeting to assess the situation after the blast.

On Feb. 17, a suicide car bomb blasted in Ankara killing 29 and wounded 81 others. TAK, an affiliate of PKK terrorist group claimed responsibility for that attack.
