The Balkan tournament starts on Monday in Bosnia and Herzegovina and ends on Thursday in Montenegro. Somewhere in the middle of this journey, the president of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will also stop in Kosovo. His visit to Pristina is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, when he will meet with the acting president, the acting prime minister, as well as with the leaders of the opposition parties.
Costa’s second visit to the region within 18 months of assuming the post at the head of the highest political institution of the European Union aims to confirm the new momentum in the EU enlargement process.
On the verge of departure of the tour, Costa has stated that his visit sends a clear signal: the European Union’s commitment to the region is real, as is the prospect of enlargement. He has emphasized that there is a new momentum in this process and that the countries of the region must show concrete results, reports RTK.
This new momentum in the enlargement process is best seen in the case of Montenegro, which is considered the most likely candidate to become the next member of the European Union, even before the end of this decade.
Antonio Costa will finish the Balkan tour in Montenegro, where he will also participate in the EU – Western Balkans Summit. which is held in Tivat on June 5. The summit is expected to address the perspective of expansion for the countries of the region and the necessary reforms in the integration process.
Kosovo, as the only state in the region without candidate status, will be represented at this summit by the acting president of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu.
