Tuesday, January 20th 2026

The European Commission on Tuesday presented a new cyber security package aimed at strengthening the EU’s resilience against “growing cyber and hybrid threats” targeting critical services and democratic institutions, Anadolu reports.

The package includes a revised Cyber Security Act, which aims to secure the EU’s information and communication technology supply chains, especially against risks from third-country suppliers with security concerns.

The new act introduces a harmonized, proportionate and risk-based framework to help the EU and member states identify and reduce risks in 18 critical sectors.

“In today’s geopolitical landscape, the security of supply chains is not only about the technical security of products or services, but also supplier-related risks, especially foreign dependencies and interference,” he said. Commission.

The package will also enable mandatory de-risking of European mobile networks from high-risk suppliers, building on measures already adopted under the EU’s 5G security tool.

Once approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU, the Cybersecurity Act will come into force immediately.
