A Kosovapress source in the northern municipality of Mitrovicë, said that ‘peace park’ will not be removed until an unspecified period of time, due to the recent developments in Kosovo.
Announcements about the removal of the so-called ‘peace park’ barricade on the main bridge in Mitrovica, as well as revitalization of the bridge that was foreseen with the Brussels agreement will not be fulfilled tomorrow, October 15th.
A Kosovapress source in the northern municipality of Mitrovicë, said that ‘peace park’ will not be removed until an unspecified period of time, due to the recent developments in Kosovo.
“Recent events taking place throughout Kosovo, including protests against ‘Zajednica’ are the main reason as to why the park removal was postponed,” the source told Kosovapress.
Meanwhile, Mitrovica north mayor Goran Rakic, told Serbian media that the announced work on the main bridge over the Iber River, which was supposed to take place on October 15th, would not take place until both municipalities of Mitrovica do not sign the memorandum which defines the border between the municipalities.
According to him, the memorandum had to be signed on October 10th and based on it, three villages inhabited by Albanian majority, Suhodoll, Gushavc and Vinarc, would belong to the northern municipality, a thing which Mitrovica south mayor, Agim Bahtiri, has disagreed with.
In other words, the main bridge over the Iber River is closed for vehicle traffic since July 2011, after Serbs decided to place a barricade, in order to oppose the presence of Kosovo institutions in the area.
