Shortly after the call of the Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy, Anu Prattipati, for Kosovo to join the American gas pipeline, the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in an interview with Public Radio and Television of Kosovo, the night before the elections, spoke in detail about his position regarding this topic.

Kurti hinted that he does not want the American gas pipelines to come to Kosovo, but for Kosovo to be connected to the terminal of gas which is in Vlora and receive electricity from there through the 400 kilovolt interconnection that Kosovo connects with Albania.

“Keep in mind that we have cooperation with Albania, with ALPEX, we want to be integrated in the Republic of Albania. Our vision is that we join Albania in the liquefied gas terminal in Vlora. Kosovo is willing to invest in the terminal in Vlora and imagine a situation where we could have percentage of the shares in the Vlora terminal and there the liquefied gas can come from abroad, be converted into electricity and with an interconnection of 400 kilovolts, we don’t need to bring it to Kosovo, but we get it from Vlora. Vlora can be the place where Albania and Kosovo are together in terms of liquefied gas that is imported from abroad”, said Kurti in the interview on June 6.

of VV has said that he prefers that Kosovo’s coal be converted into gas rather than that Kosovo buy gas. Kurti said that Kosovo is interested in American companies that can gasify the lignite that Kosovo has in bulk.

“We are very interested in American expertise and American corporations for the gasification of lignite since we have our own resources. And I think that this is not inconsistent with the current policy of the American administration, which does not have a distance for the use of coal as the previous administration had,” he added. Kurti.

The government led by Albin Kurti decided in 2021 not to choose the American gas pipeline project that was financed by the MCC.

The decision was confirmed at that time by Minister Artane Rizvanolli.

“Faced with the deadlines of the MCC, we have decided to move forward and use the investment allocated for the compact program, for investments with higher risk low but which help Kosovo towards the decarbonization of the energy sector and create conditions for economic development and development of the private sector”, Rizvanolli stated in 2021.
