The constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo was interrupted after the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, requested additional time to continue consultations with the parliamentary subjects in an effort to reach an agreement on the election of the country’s next president.

Addressing the deputies, Kurti said that the Vetëvendosje Movement has held meetings with the chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, and the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, who thanked them for their readiness for dialogue.

He added that his party remains open to talks with the PDK and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), although, according to him, these two entities have so far rejected such a process.

According to Kurt, the election of the president requires the widest possible political consensus, calling this a constitutional obligation and a necessary step for institutional stability.

He stressed that the country should not face a political blockade again that would lead to the dissolution of the Assembly and the organization of early elections.

“The establishment of institutions should not end this time with the dissolution of the Assembly and new elections, which would be unnecessary and harmful to the country’s economy. For this reason, we ask for more time, in order to give opportunities to efforts for an agreement about the new president”, he declared Kurti.

After his request, the chairman of the session, Avni Dehari, announced the suspension of the constitutive session, while it was not announced when it will continue.
