The chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has stated that it is necessary to continue the political discussions between the parties, in order to reach an agreement on the election of the new president of Kosovo, before proceeding with the full constitution of the Assembly.

After the interruption of the constitutive session of the Assembly of Kosovo, Kurti said that a constitution without an agreement on the president would create a risk for the dissolution of the Assembly and a new situation “We must give a chance to the political agreement or consensus for the president or the new president. Any constitution of the Assembly without an agreement on the president would be a preparation for the dissolution of the Assembly. The agreement is the right way for the constitution of institutions, as required by the constitutional order”, stated Kurti. certification of the results of the elections, but according to him, due to internal developments in some political subjects, these meetings were held only in the last few days.

“Since the certification, without wasting time, we wanted to give a chance to discussions, as the opposition parties had requested after the elections. However, due to the dynamics in the LDK, we held the meetings only a few days ago. The last discussion showed that there was not enough time to reach an agreement”, he said Kurti.

According to him, the continuation of the talks is necessary to avoid a process that could lead to the failure of the constitution of the institutions.

“In the face of this situation, it is necessary to give a chance to continue the discussions before moving on the constitution of the Assembly, which could make it difficult to reach a potential agreement and avoid the next elections”, stated Kurti.

He reiterated that the institutions should be formed only after there is an agreement on the issue of the president.

“We need to take additional time for discussions and only when we have reached agreements on the president, proceed with the full constitution of the institutions. Last time we saw that without finding a solution for the president there were difficulties”, declared Kurti.
