President calls on Kosovo citizens to vote in local elections

Prishtina – Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, has cast his ballot on Sunday in Pristina as 1.8 million Kosovars go to the polls to elect mayors and municipal councilors in 38 municipalities of Kosovo.

Thaci said he hopes Kosovo will hold calm and free election and called on all citizens to go out and vote.

“I encourage citizens to vote. I thank the Central Elections Commission (CEC), and all institutional mechanisms on organising free, and democratic elections,” said Thaci after casting his ballot.

1.8 million Kosovars are eligible for voting today to elect mayors and municipal assemblies in 38 municipalities of Kosovo. 204 mayoral candidates are competing in 38 municipalities.

The polling stations were opened at 07:00 and will be closed at 19:00. Sunday’s election will be monitored by 33.200 observers, who represent certified political entities, local NGOs, international organisations, embassies, local and international media. /Express/
