Tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese began returning to southern Lebanon and the southern suburbs of Beirut earlier today after the ceasefire with Israel took effect at midnight.

Anadolu correspondent reported heavy movement of displaced people from areas north of Beirut to the southern suburbs, with heavy traffic jams on roads leading to the area.

Significant traffic was also recorded in highways that run from Beirut and Mount Lebanon to the southern regions, especially along the coastal road to the cities of Sidon and Tyre.

The ceasefire announced yesterday by US President Donald Trump is expected to last for 10 days starting at midnight local time.

Israel launched an offensive against Lebanon on March 2, killing 2,196 people and wounding 7,185 others. The attack also displaced more than 1 million people.
