UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz will remain “fully open” to all commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire, reports Anadolu.

“This is a step in the right direction,” the UN chief said in a statement.

“The UN position remains clear: full restoration of rights and international freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, respected by all,” Guterres said.

Guterres also expressed hope that this decision, combined with the ceasefire, will help build trust between the parties and strengthen ongoing diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan.
