The Israeli army has advanced in villages located north of the Litani River and has reached the outskirts of the city of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.
A senior Lebanese military source told Anadolu that Israeli forces “have reached villages and towns north of the Litani River, including Zawtar al-Sharqiyah and Shqif Arnoun, as well as the outskirts of the city of Nabatieh”.
According to him, this has been accompanied by an increase in Israeli attacks and incursions into other villages and towns in the south.
“The Lebanese army has evacuated its positions from villages and towns that have fallen under Israeli control,” to ensure the safety of Lebanese soldiers, the source said, adding that Israeli army attacks have caused casualties among the ranks of the Lebanese army.
“There is no presence of the Lebanese army in the occupied areas in south of Lebanon,” he added.
The source emphasized that the priority of the Lebanese army at this stage is to strengthen internal stability, adding that the current Israeli escalation preceded the military meetings organized by the US with Israel.
Israel has continued attacks on Lebanon despite the cease-fire that took effect on April 17 and was extended for 45 days starting on May 17, following indirect talks brokered by USA.
According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks since March 2 have caused more than 3,350 victims nationwide.
