Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will pay a state visit to China from May 23 to 26, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced, Anadolu reports.

Speaking at a Senate hearing, Dar, who also serves as deputy prime minister, said he will accompany Sharif during the visit.

According to him, the Pakistani prime minister will hold meetings with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Qiang.

Sharif is also expected to attend business-to-business meetings and attend events marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

“We will also have meetings of two very important mechanisms – first, the Pakistan-China political forum and second, the CPEC joint consultative mechanism,” Dar said, adding that a large multi-party parliamentary delegation from Pakistan would attended several meetings in Beijing.

Beijing has not yet officially confirmed the visit. A Chinese delegation led by Cai Dafeng, who arrived in Islamabad, was also present in the Senate during Dar’s speech.

Dar praised China’s support for Pakistan and said the two countries share a “common vision” on regional and global issues.

“China provided great support in eliminating blackouts and power cuts in Pakistan. We will always remain grateful to China,” he said.
