The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, is on an official visit in Brdo, Slovenia, where he is attending the summit of foreign ministers of the Western Balkan countries.Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi stressed that Kosovo has made great progress after independence, but said that delays of the EU and the Balkan countries in normalization of relations between them could jeopardize this progress. He said that Kosovo has proven to be a champion of dialogue, normalization of relations and good neighborliness and that he expects Kosovo’s contribution to be rewarded for peacebuilding.

“There has never been more communication, but also opportunities for cooperation among the Western Balkan countries. Forums like this in Brdo, or that of two days ago in Brussels and a month ago in Prishtina, provide an opportunity to deepen the cooperation among the Western Balkan countries, but also for finding solutions to common challenges,” Thaçi said to the participants of the summit in Brdo.

Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi said that the challenges such as radicalism and terrorism or Russia’s anti-European, unclear policies can be overcome only through joint action of the region. “With communication and better cooperation we should break prejudices, not wasting time with symbols of footnotes and similar problems that Kosovo faces every day,” Thaçi said.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi, a particular challenge is the continuity of the EU commitment in the Western Balkans, especially today when the region is moving towards the Euro-Atlantic future and the need for the EU’s support is greater.
