The number of jackals in Europe is increasing. According to the latest data, most of them are concentrated above all in the south-eastern and central part of the continent, but there is the possibility of rapid spread, occupying 75% of the territory, almost 6 times more than the current area.

The main reason for this phenomenon is precisely man, even if involuntarily.

Their approach to the inhabited centers creates a kind of shield against the wolf, the prey of which is exactly the jackal.

The result is the loss of the natural balance, in favor of the latter.

Other reasons that are attached to and have influenced are climate changes, which are associated with the thinning of forests, but also the drastic decline of wolf colonies, which after centuries of persecution and destruction, has had a great impact.

Also, the jackal has the tendency to it settles in areas where there is a shortage of wolves, as hunters avoid staying near urbanized areas, creating the possibility of being colonized by jackals.

The research work carried out by the French National Institute for the Environment and a number of Italian institutes, and published in the journal Nature Ecology and Evolution, covers a period of time from 2001 to 2017, in about 9 thousand areas in 13 countries of the European continent.
