The Ministry of Labour, Family and Values of the Liberation War, together with the Labor Inspectorate, have launched an action of inspections in workplaces, at the country level, aimed at increasing safety and health at work.
The launch of this action comes a day after a worker died at the workplace. He was the eighth person who lost his life while working this year.
The action will take place for 15 days and focuses on high-risk sectors, such as construction.
The acting director of the Central Labor Inspectorate, Kastriot Jashari, told the media that such an action, with such scope throughout the territory of Kosovo, is likely to be carried out for the first time within this institution.
“It must be understood that businesses, business entities, are partners for us. However, partnership has obligations and obligations. There is also respect for the principles and legal norms that we must do the other way around. In the framework of this, we are trying to change some practices in order to know the clear rule in respect of work safety conditions for all our citizens”, he said.
The action first starts in three cities and then will expands to all other cities.
The authorities announced that 15 inspection teams with 30 inspectors will participate in this action.
Asked by journalists if the action targets workplaces in the construction sector, the authorities said that the operational plan was made in such a way that it identified high-risk sectors.
As for the construction sector, earlier the Union of Trade Unions of Kosovo has expressed concern about, as it has said, the severe conditions faced by construction workers at work.
In the Law on safety and health at work it is emphasized that safety, training of workers, proper instructions for the use and maintenance of equipment and machines are obligations that each employer must implement for his employees.
