Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane set two records with his goal in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Englishman put the visitors 1-0 up in the 17th minute, converting from the penalty spot, after Luis Diaz was brought down in the area by PSG defender Willian Pacho.
However, until by the end of the first half, PSG had overturned the score 3–2 in what became the highest-scoring semi-final in history.
Harry Kane’s last-gasp goal meant he reached 60 goals in a season for the first time in his career, going on to 54 goals and 6 assists — both personal bests.
He also became the first English player to score in six consecutive Champions League games, Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard’s record of five.
For most of the current Bundesliga season, Kane looked like he could challenge the goalscoring record of Robert Lewandowski, who scored 41 goals for Bayern in the 2020/21 season, breaking Gerd Muller’s previous record.
Kane currently has 33 goals in 28 appearances, meaning he needs eight goals with only three games remaining — a big challenge, even for a striker of his caliber.
The game eventually ended 5-4 in favor of PSG./Express
