The Spokesperson of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo, Angela Griep, during the weekly media briefing, announced that the judicial process against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi is currently at an important stage.
According to her, the Trial Panel in this case has entered the stage of deliberations, where the evidence and final arguments are being examined before the final decision is made, reports Klankosova.tv.
She emphasized that the duration for issuing the judgment varies from case to case and depends on the complexity of the case.
Griep announced that, based on the rules in force, the Judicial Panel has at its disposal a deadline of 90 days to reach a verdict.
However, she clarified that this deadline is not fixed, as in certain circumstances the judges may decide to extend the session period if they consider that more time is needed for a fair and reasoned decision.
She added that there is currently no set date for the announcement of the judgment in this case, but emphasized that the public will be informed immediately as soon as the judges decide on a specific deadline.
Referring to the Rules of Procedure and Evidence, specifically rule 159, Griep underlined that the Trial Panel did not is obliged to request a formal extension of the deadline.
However, if he decides to extend the decision-making process, he must present a reasoned decision for this step.
Finally, she emphasized that the regulation in force does not define an exact time limit for the publication of this decision, thus leaving room for the process to be extended depending on the developments and complexity of the case.
