New scientific studies are revealing interesting links between slimming drugs, women’s health and lifestyle, opening new discussions in the world of medicine.
One of the most important discoveries is related to anti-diabetic drugs, GLP-1, which are also used for weight loss, which may also help in the fight against breast cancer, wrote Yahoo.
According to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, women with diabetes or overweight women who had breast cancer and used GLP-1 drugs had better outcomes after diagnosis.
Researchers saw improvements in both survival and reduced disease recurrence.
Experts say more studies are needed to understand the best time and most appropriate way to use these drugs in breast cancer patients.
Another study raised concerns about endometriosis, a chronic disease that it affects about one in 10, causing severe pain, menstrual problems and in some cases difficulty getting pregnant.
According to research published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, babies born to mothers with endometriosis have a higher risk of congenital abnormalities.
These can include problems with the heart, digestive system and muscles or bones. In some cases, tumors or neoplasms have also been reported.
However, researchers emphasize that the overall risk remains small.
Meanwhile, another study suggests that long working hours may directly affect body weight gain.
According to research presented by the European Association for the Study of Obesity, a 1 percent reduction in working hours is associated with a 0.2 percent reduction in obesity.
The study, carried out in 33 countries, suggests that the balance between private life and work can have a big impact on health.
Until now, most research has linked obesity mainly to food and lack of physical activity, but this study shows that too much work can also be an important factor in weight gain.
