Former head of the Israeli Army Intelligence Directorate (AMAN), Tamir Hayman stated that a plan by the US and Israel to incite certain groups, including those linked to the terrorist organization PKK, to attack Iran was thwarted thanks to the obedience of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to US President Donald Trump, reports Anadolu.
In an interview with PBS, a television network based in the US, retired Major General Hayman said that within the framework of the attacks launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28, which resulted in a temporary ceasefire, they tried to implement a series of covert plans to overthrow the government in Tehran, including inciting attacks by groups linked to the terrorist organization PKK and returning to power the former Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Hayman said that the New York Times story of May 20, who claimed that the US and Israel planned to overthrow the current Iranian regime and bring back Ahmadinejad, was correct.
“Regarding Ahmadinejad, a very unique series of special operations was planned, and Ahmadinejad was part of that series. Apart from the Kurdish operation, the rest of the operations were not fully disclosed to the public. Because it was planned that this whole chain of operations would start with the Kurdish operation,” it continues.
Hayman points out that President Erdogan convinced him US President Trump to cancel the plan, which the US and Israel were trying to implement against Iran through ethnically based armed groups.
– “The decision to attack Iran was a surprise to Israel”
Hayman argued that claims in the public sphere that “Israel convinced Trump to attack Iran” do not reflect the truth.
Heyman says Trump took this step because of a feeling the success of the US intervention against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
“The trial in Venezuela prompted Trump to post on social media saying ‘help is on the way’ to anti-regime protesters. This was a big surprise for the Israelis. Israel was caught off guard when Trump said ‘help is on the way’ and decided to attack Iran. This happened in early January.”
Claiming that Israel had not military attack plan at the time, Hayman said: “Trump suddenly appeared, surprising the Israelis, and said he would strike Iran. This action changed the situation. After Trump’s statement, Israel’s planning and US motivation came together. The process led to military mobilization on February 28.”
