Amnesty International Secretary General Agnes Callamard today strongly criticized Finland for inviting Israeli arms industry companies to Helsinki for talks on defense cooperation, reports Anadolu.
In comments following reports about the planned meeting, Callamard described the move as “absolutely shameful” and reminded Finland of its obligations.
“This must stop. Finland’s international obligations and credibility are at risk,” she said in a post on American social media company X.
Callamard questioned Finland’s decision to pursue cooperation with Israeli defense companies amid Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza.
“Of course, and unfortunately, Israel is not the only country capable of providing Finland with the weapons it believes it needs to defend itself,” she said.
“So why go to a state? she asked.
The head of Amnesty International called on Finnish citizens and political leaders to oppose such cooperation, saying that arms purchases from Israel are wrong and could potentially violate international law Callamard.
