Azem Vllasi’s “Yugoslavia and Kosovo” is promoted in Sarajevo
The book “Yugoslavia and Kosovo” by Azem Vllasi, which talks about the relationship between Kosovo and the Yugoslav state, with special emphasis on the events that led to its fall, was recently promoted in Sarajevo, precisely in the city where Tito’s former federation with Belgrade as its capital collapsed under a river blood.
Azem Vllasi, now a lawyer, former high political official of Yugoslavia in the late 80s, emphasized that this is a kind of continuation of his previous book “Kosova – the beginning of the decline”, but also a broader overview of the position of Kosovo through different historical periods.
“This book is a testimony of how others in Yugoslavia, both in the Kingdom and after the year 1945, they treated Kosovo as a Serbian issue, as if it did not belong to others. We were persistent in all circumstances to achieve a level of equality, which we only achieved to some extent with the Constitution of 1974, although this worried those in Serbia who always saw Kosovo as their issue,” said Vllasi.
In the book, the author also provides personal testimony about the last years of Yugoslavia and analyzes how political decisions (especially the removal of Kosovo’s autonomy in 1989) led to conflict and the collapse of the former federal state with five republics.
“The immediate cause for the beginning of the collapse of Yugoslavia was when Milosevic’s policy began forcefully against Kosovo and the Albanians, others turned their heads, but at the same time realized that they could not live in a common state with such a Serbia,” he added. Vlasi. /square
