Dietitians reveal how and with what it is better to eat eggs

Vitamin D is important because it is involved in many processes in the body, from bone health to supporting the immune and metabolic systems.

However, many people do not get enough because they spend too much time indoors, and there are few foods that contain it naturally.

Eggs, especially egg yolks, are one of the few natural sources of this vitamin. However, the way eggs are eaten can affect the amount of vitamin D the body actually uses.

Nutritionists point out that the best way to get vitamin D from eggs is to combine them with healthy fats. The reason is that vitamin D belongs to the group of fat-soluble vitamins.

“Fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamin D, require dietary fat to be absorbed and used properly in the body, which makes fat a key partner in maximizing their benefits,” explains registered dietitian Toby Amidor to EatingWell. That’s why combining eggs with sources of healthy fats can help the body use this vitamin better.

Vitamin D can also be obtained from other foods

Most of the vitamin D in eggs is in the yolk, so removing it removes almost all of the nutrient. Egg yolks are also naturally rich in fat, which further aids vitamin D absorption.

“Egg yolks are one of the few natural sources of vitamin D, and since it’s fat-soluble, combining eggs with healthy fats — like avocado or olive oil — helps your body use it more efficiently,” says registered dietitian Jamie Lee McIntyre. Adding other sources of fat can further improve absorption and taste, writes Index.hr.

This tip is easy to implement in your daily diet. Eggs can be prepared in a pan with olive or avocado oil, or served with avocado, which is rich in monounsaturated fats. Chia or flax seeds and smoked salmon can also be good additions, which provide extra fats and vitamin D.

While eggs are a useful source, vitamin D can also be obtained from other foods such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, trout or certain mushrooms, as well as through moderate sun exposure.
