Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that Ankara does not want the conflict between the United States and Iran to spread further in the region, reports Anadolu.
Erdogan made the comments during a meeting in Istanbul with Masrour Barzani, prime minister of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq, Turkey’s Communications Directorate reported.
Both sides discussed the latest regional developments during the meeting.
Erdogan expressed concern. for attacks on Iraqi territory, including in Erbil, amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict and said that Turkey opposes the expansion of the conflict to other countries in the region.
He also said that Turkey will continue its solidarity with the KRG during this period.
Underlining the importance of stability in Iraq to the wider region, Erdogan said that the rapid formation of Iraq’s central government would support the unity and cohesion of the country.
The Turkish president reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with both the central government of Iraq and the KRG, especially in trade, transport and energy.
He added that the implementation of the Development Road Project would bring great benefits not only to Iraq, but also to the Gulf countries.
Erdogan also reiterated Turkey’s determination to complete the “Turkey without Terror” initiative. emphasizing Ankara’s desire for peace and stability both domestically and in the region.
