The District Prosecutor’s Office in Split has filed an indictment for espionage against the Croatian citizen J.I., a former military pilot in the Croatian Air Force, and the Serbian citizen from Kosovo, A.M., who had been in a relationship with him for years. Both were arrested in August last year on suspicion of espionage, “Index” reported.
According to the Croatian Prosecutor’s Office, J.I., while serving in the Armed Forces of Croatia, from February to December 2022, repeatedly handed his partner classified information, which he received or had access to due to his duties.
The indictment states that he was aware that his partner was collecting this data on behalf of a foreign country. A.M., meanwhile, is suspected of having forwarded the information provided to several addresses outside Croatia.
The case is also related to suspicions of espionage related to the security situation in Kosovo. The Croatian pilot is suspected of having given his partner information about the movements of KFOR troops during his service in KFOR. According to the Prosecution’s suspicions, she had then conveyed this information to the representatives of the Serbian List.
Also, the pilot is suspected of having revealed to his partner important information regarding the movements of Serbs in the north of Kosovo, starting from the end of 2022, as well as data on the movements of KFOR troops and general developments in the north of the country.
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Split has proposed to the District Court the continuation of precautionary measures against the accused A.M., justifying the request with the existence of the risk of escape.
