Iran: Countries enforcing US sanctions will face “difficulty” crossing Hormuz

Sunday, May 10th 2026

A spokesman for the Iranian army has said today that the countries that implement American sanctions against Tehran “will certainly face difficulties in passing through the Strait of Hormuz”, reports Anadolu.

“None of the enemy’s objectives were achieved” and the political balance of the Iranian system “was not destabilized”, Brigadier General Akrami Nia said in a statement broadcast by the semi-official Tasnim news agency.

Regional tensions are escalated since the US and Israel launched strikes against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel as well as US allies in the Persian Gulf, along with closing the Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire came into effect on April 8 through the mediation of Pakistan, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. The truce was then extended by Donald Trump without a specific deadline, paving the way for diplomacy for a permanent solution to the war.

Since April 13, the US has implemented a naval blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in this waterway. Trump announced on Tuesday that the US military will temporarily suspend “Project Freedom” to restore freedom of navigation for merchant ships in the maritime corridor, adding that the US blockade will remain “fully in effect”.
