A cargo ship was hit today by an “unknown projectile” 23 nautical miles northeast of Qatar’s capital, Doha, according to the United Kingdom’s Center for Maritime Commercial Operations (UKMTO), Anadolu reports.

“There was a small fire that has been extinguished and there are no casualties,” UKMTO said in a statement published through the American social media platform X.

Authorities are investigating the incident, it goes on to say, while no impact on the environment has been reported.

Authorities have not provided details on the origin or nature of the projectile.
