Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called today for the use of “every rational and diplomatic way” to reduce tensions, saying that war is not in anyone’s interest, reports Anadolu.
“While resisting threats, every rational and diplomatic way should be used to reduce tensions,” the Iranian state news agency IRNA quoted the Iranian president as saying.
“At the same time, distrust towards the enemy and vigilance in interactions are an undeniable necessity,” he added.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Iran has no plans for another round of talks with the US. “The Islamic Republic of Iran does not accept any deadline or ultimatum in the pursuit of its national interests,” Baqaei said in a statement broadcast by the country’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
“The protection of national interests will continue as long as necessary, and in case of any new adventurism by the US or the Israeli regime, the armed forces will respond with full force and decisive power,” he added. he.
These comments came after two Pakistani sources familiar with the mediation process told Anadolu that an Iranian delegation will participate in a second round of talks with the US. Tehran and Washington held the first round of negotiations in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, which ended without an agreement on April 12.
They announced a two-week ceasefire on April 8 brokered by Pakistan. The ceasefire came after weeks of hostilities that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran in late February.
In response, Iran retaliated with attacks on Israel and other regional countries hosting US assets.
