Royal Dutch Airlines KLM announced on Thursday that it will cancel 160 flights within Europe next month due to rising fuel costs, reports Anadolu.
In a statement, KLM said it has made a “series of adjustments” to its flight schedule for the coming month.
“This is related to a limited number of flights within Europe that, due to rising fuel costs, are currently no longer available. financially viable to operate,” the statement said.
The airline said there is no shortage of jet fuel and that the cancellations include 80 fewer round-trip flights to and from Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands, representing less than 1 percent of its European operations during that period.
The statement added that the company expects a busy travel period during the May holidays and is working to ensure passengers get to to their scheduled destinations.
Rising tensions in the Middle East have increased operating costs for airlines around the world, with several companies recently announcing flight cancellations and schedule changes.
