The chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement and acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, gave a speech at the party’s General Council meeting, after being nominated as a candidate for prime minister for the June 7 elections.

Kurti said that the fulfillment of the political mission of the Vetëvendosje Movement is a historical obligation to Kosovo and the Albanian nation. To our Republic. We will fulfill this task and no one can stop us, because our eyes, ears, mind, and heart are focused on our most sublime goal. Without your stable and massive support from every village and from every family, from within the country and from the diaspora, we would not be able to overcome the great social and historical difficulties that have appeared in our past. But with your help, with sincere cooperation with all of you, with sacrifice and work without ever giving up, I am sure that we will overcome every obstacle and every challenge”, he said.

He added that the Vetëvendosje Movement is entering another election campaign unyielding in the face of political opponents.

“We are in another campaign, on the verge of it formally, in another confrontation with the past or its representations that will never die as it seems without once again tried to take our breath away. But we are here unbroken, stronger than ever, with clean hands and an open face,” Kurti said.

Speaking of the June 7th elections, Kurti said that Vetëvendosje aims for further electoral growth after the last election results.

“We are today exactly 29 days away from June 7th, so tomorrow four weeks are the new and extraordinary elections, which are coming up a little more than five months after the last election where we scored 51% of the votes. And they came ten months after the elections where we won 42% of the votes. From February to December, we increased by 9%. And if we increase by the same amount from December to June, then we can really touch 60%.

He also emphasized that the new elections were not necessary, alluding to opposition in creating the political situation.

“With all this, I am of the opinion that as a state and as a society, as institutions and a system that should function democratically and efficiently, we did not need another new election so soon. It seems as if someone, perhaps some strategist who sits in the shadows and directs the actions of the opposition from behind the scenes, is thinking that elections are necessary. Maybe they are for the opposition, but not for the people and the state”, he added Kurti.
