Lista Serbe is silent after Paunović’s statements about “ethnic cleansing” in Kosovo

Friday, July 17th 2026

Lista Serbe has not yet reacted publicly to the statements of the Serbian Minister for Public Administration and Local Self-Government, Snezhana Paunović, who said that, if she had been in Slobodan Milosevic’s place in 1998, she would have “ethnically cleansed Kosovo”. Her statements have provoked harsh reactions in Kosovo, in the region and from the European Union.

The institutions of Kosovo have described the statements as incitement to hatred and glorification of war crimes, while they have taken measures against the Serbian minister, declaring her persona non grata and filing criminal charges for her statements.

Condemning reactions have also come from countries in the region, while the European Union has made it clear that there is no room for rhetoric that justifies or promotes ethnic cleansing. The Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has condemned the statement and expressed her surprise that Paunović continues to remain a minister in the Government of Serbia.

Despite these reactions, not even a week later, Lista Serbe, the political entity that represents the majority of Kosovo Serbs and which traditionally maintains close ties with Belgrade, has not come out with any public stance on Paunović’s statements. Until now, no official reaction has been published by the leaders of this party regarding the issue.

Regarding the non-reaction of the Serbian List on this issue, the editor-in-chief of KoSSev, Tatjana Lazarević, spoke today, who said that Paunović’s statement is a typical example of hate speech, reports KosovaPress.

Meanwhile, Paunović’s statements about the ethnic cleansing of Kosovo came during a show Serbian courier, last weekend.

KosovaPress reported on Monday about her fascist statements, while political actors in the region and beyond have also reacted since then.

On Thursday, the official request for her dismissal from the position of minister in Serbia was submitted.
