The acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has announced that the constitutive session of the Assembly is expected to be held at the beginning of August, while the exact date and time will be published next week.
Haxhiu emphasized that the Constitution gives the president a deadline of 30 days to call the constitutive session and that he has decided to give space to political parties to hold talks.
“The constitutional deadline is until August 7 and at the beginning of August there will be a constitutive session. Next week, I promise you will know the exact day and the exact time,” Haxhiu stated.
According to her, this approach aims to create opportunities for reaching a political agreement before the constitution of the Assembly, in order to avoid dragging out the process of electing the president.
“I appreciated giving the political parties the time available in order to reach an agreement, so that as soon as the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is constituted, there is no need to wait 60 days to elect the president”, she said.
Haxhiu warned that the failure to elect the president could lead the country to extraordinary elections, which, according to her, would not be in the interest of the citizens.
“No one wants extraordinary elections in the Republic of Kosovo because they would not elect anything”, she stressed. she.
She welcomed the continuation of the meetings initiated by Prime Minister Albin Kurti with political parties, appreciating the participation of PDK and LDK in the initial phase, while expressing regret that LDK has suspended negotiations and called on AAK to respond positively to the invitations.
Haxhiu emphasized the importance of the participation of all deputies in the constitutive session.
