Local elections begin in the West Bank and the city of Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip

According to the Central Election Commission of Palestine, local elections started today in the West Bank and the city of Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip, Anadolu reports.

The election commission announced that about 1.03 million voters are eligible to vote through 491 polling stations, which include 1,922 polling stations.

This also marks the first time in 22 years that municipal elections are being held in Deir al-Balah, one of the relatively least damaged cities in the enclave during Israel’s two-year genocidal war.

Voting centers opened at 07:00 local time and will close at 19:00 in the West Bank, while in Deir al-Balah they will close at 17:00.

Elections include a total of 183 municipalities, 90 municipal councils with 3,773 candidates in the race, as well as 93 village councils with 1,358 candidates competing for seats.
