The Central Market Surveillance Inspectorate (IQMT) has undertaken a broad action to control the children’s toy market, banning over 38,000 toys that did not meet safety standards. Their value reaches around 100,000 euros, while the risk to children’s health is considered great.
During 2026, IQMT carried out a wide inspection action, both in the customs areas and in the internal market, where more than 50 subjects were inspected.
In this action, 38,000 pieces of unsafe toys for children were stopped, which were returned to the country of origin. origin.
The purpose of these actions is to find safe products in the market and in accordance with legal standards, contributing to the protection of the health and well-being of citizens.
The basic criterion according to the directives of the European Union for the import of toys is the CE mark, which shows that the toys are adapted to the European standards of safety, health and environmental protection.
The RTK team visited several stores and the green market in Pristina, where it was noticed that some toys did not have the CE mark and did not contain information on origin and content. Meanwhile, the biggest stores had installed the necessary signs and documentation.
“With the small number of inspectors, it is understandable that there is a flow of contraband, especially with children’s toys, which are often dangerous and carcinogenic. More focus should be put on preventive controls, since cheap toys from China or other countries can harm children’s health,” said Lulzim Beqiri, an expert on the economy.
Toy prices of imported from China can be as little as 1 euro, and often lack data on their origin and content, increasing the risk for younger consumers.
