Reçak massacre, detention of five accused of war crimes

Monday, June 15th 2026

The Basic Court in Pristina has assigned the measure of detention to the five arrested on Sunday under the suspicion of having committed war crimes by participating in the Reçak massacre.

After holding the hearing, the judge of the preliminary procedure has approved the request of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo to assign the measure of detention to the defendants N.P., S.J., B.P., S.M. and S.S., setting the measure of detention for a duration of 1 (one) month for each.

“The court assesses that the setting of the measure of detention in this criminal case is an adequate measure, since there is a real risk that if the defendants are released, they may escape in order to hide and escape from criminal responsibility, also taking into account that all the defendants are also citizens of Serbia, there is a real risk that escape easily and be inaccessible to the justice bodies, which would make it impossible to ensure their presence and hinder the normal course of the criminal procedure”, the announcement of the Basic Court of Prishtina states.

The court also assesses that if the defendants are released, there is a risk that they will influence the evidence and witnesses, therefore it concluded that the measure of detention is currently the only measure for the unimpeded flow of criminal procedure in this criminal case.

Otherwise, the five Serbs, all members of the Serbian Police in 1999, were arrested on Sunday as part of the ongoing investigations into the case known as “Recak II”. /Klankosova.tv
