The second and final day of the fourth round of US-brokered talks between Lebanon and Israel began today in Washington.

Lebanese sources told Anadolu that the negotiations are taking place at the US State Department headquarters.

The US-sponsored talks come after weeks of almost daily Israeli attacks, which have killed nearly 3,500 people since March 2, despite a truce that took effect on April 17 and was later extended until early July.

The conflict escalated recently after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered troops to deepen the incursion and called for attacks on Beirut.

However, according to an Axios report, he backed down after a tense phone call with US President Donald Trump.
