Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has supported negotiations with the US, stressing that Iran is facing serious economic pressure and cannot stay in permanent confrontation, reports Anadolu.
“They blocked the road and we are not even exporting oil. We cannot export oil easily,” Pezeshkian said during a meeting.
According to the semi-official ISNA news agency, the Iranian president also responded to critics of the negotiations.
“They say we shouldn’t negotiate. If we don’t negotiate, then what should we do, fight forever,” Pezeshkian said.
Pezeshkian also said Iran will continue talks “with dignity,” protecting the rights of the Iranian people.
He also acknowledged broader economic difficulties, noting that tax collection has become more difficult and many businesses are facing problems.
“We can’t say we don’t have problems,” he said, adding that parts of Iran’s gas, energy and industrial infrastructure have also been damaged during the conflict.
