A draft of a possible agreement between Iran and the US includes cooperation between Tehran and Oman on the management of maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz, reports Anadolu.

As reported by Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, which said it had obtained the document, Iran would commit to returning the number of commercial ships passing through the strait to pre-tension levels within a month, but military vessels are not included in the plan. agreement.

According to the agreement, the US will lift the naval blockade of Iranian ports.

The US is also “committed to withdrawing its military forces from the periphery of Iran,” it said further, adding that “whether this clause includes forces deployed in the region or those located on military bases remains to be negotiated.”

“If a final agreement is reached within a 60-day period, this agreement will be adopted in the form of a binding UN Security Council resolution,” the report said.

The report says the deal has not yet been finalized and “Iran will not take any steps without tangible verification.”

Regional tensions flared on February 28 when the US and Israel launched surprise attacks on Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with waves of drones and missiles that hit targets across the region as Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz.

A cease-fire came into effect on April 8 brokered by Pakistan, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting deal.

US President Donald Trump then extended the cease-fire indefinitely while continuing a blockade on ships traveling to or from Iranian ports through this strategic sea route, repeatedly declaring that a deal peace was close.
