Several people were injured today in a large chemical explosion at a paper and pulp plant of the Nippon company in the northwest of the US, in the state of Washington, local authorities announced, reports Anadolu.

The Fire Department in the city of Longview said in a statement on the American social platform Facebook that emergency teams responded to the explosion at around 7:30 a.m. local time and warned residents to avoid Industrial Road and surrounding areas as crews continued to work at the scene.

The department described the incident as an “active emergency response” and said additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Authorities did not immediately provide details on the number of injuries or the cause of the explosion.

The Nippon Dynawave Packaging plant is located near the Columbia River border. with Oregon State.
