The United States Navy has resumed escorting merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz following the recent attacks on Iran, according to a news report published today by “The Wall Street Journal”, reports Anadolu.

Citing US military officials, the newspaper reported that the navy escorted a Greek supertanker carrying 2 million barrels of crude oil through this strategic waterway off the coast of Oman.

The ship had been stranded in the region. since early March and is now headed to India to deliver its cargo, according to US military officials cited in the news.

The partnership marks the resumption of so-called “Project Freedom,” a US Navy initiative to guide ships through this critical maritime corridor, which was suspended only about 36 hours after it was first launched.
