Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the international community to act quickly against Iran, warning of increased military cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, and sent a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with Israeli television station i24NEWS.
Zelensky referred to his contacts with the Israeli leadership during the ongoing regional war, revealing that he has yet to speak directly to Netanyahu since the conflict began, although communication between the two sides has continued – as he said – through official channels.
“No, we have not spoken, although my team is in contact with his staff. He has what I need and I have what he needs. So I am ready for this dialogue. I think it is an important dialogue,” the Ukrainian president said.
Referring to Russian involvement, Zelensky stressed that evidence from downed drones in the Middle East suggests involvement Russian in the equipment used by Iran.
“We saw some details from one of the Shaheds, which was destroyed in one of the Middle Eastern countries. It was Russian equipment. So we know that the Iranians did not produce them,” he said.
Zelensky also said that the Shahed drones used today are significantly different from those previously deployed in the war in Ukraine.
“You can’t even compare the Shahed of first class, which was at the beginning of the war, with today’s Shahed. Every time we changed technologies, of course they had this experience, bloody experience on our people, on our land, and they attacked only civilians,” he noted.
According to Zelensky, the vast majority of drones have been used against civilian targets. “99% of Shahed were used against civilians,” he stressed, describing the impact of attacks on Ukraine’s population centers.
