The Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, today held a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties and representatives of non-majority communities, where the issue of electing the country’s President was discussed.
After the meeting, Haxhiu told the media that the purpose of the consultations was for the political parties to contribute to finding an agreement and to avoid the possibility of early elections.
“After all these months we don’t have to guess what part of the agreement will bring. Today I heard the political subjects and all those who were present said that they should contribute to the election of an agreement and avoid early elections,” Haxhiu said. She said that the chairman of Vetëvendosje, during the meeting, has the necessary votes for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly and the formation of the Government. the most sensitive issue remains the election of the President.
“Kurti emphasized that he has the votes for the President of the Assembly and the Government, but the issue is with the Presidency. It could be the third issue, as it is the Assembly, the Government, but it is the priority issue”, said Haxhiu.
According to her, Kurti has made it known that the LVV does not want the next President to be from its ranks, but is open to a figure consensual.
“Kurti mentioned that they do not want the President to be from the ranks of the LVV, but they are for a consensual President. I hope that the meetings with the political parties happen very soon, as the president of the LVV also told us. I hope that this meeting is not rejected by the political parties”, she said.
Haxhiu said that he would like other political representatives to be present at the meeting, in order to contribute to overcoming the current situation and finding a solution. The consultative meeting was attended by the chairman of LVV, Albin Kurti, the chairman of Alternativa, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, the chairman of Guxo, Donika Gërvalla, as well as representatives of the parties of non-majority communities.
