Two congressmen of the United States of America, Keith Self and Suhas Subramanyam, have started the meeting in the Presidency of Kosovo with the acting president, Albulena Haxhiu.

The American delegation during the visit to the region is expected to hold meetings with representatives of the central institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as with representatives of international and local security institutions. Also, meetings with representatives of civil society and the media have been planned.

During his visit to the Preševo Valley, Congressman Keith Self spoke about the challenges between Albanians and Serbia, emphasizing the need for better knowledge of the situation on the ground.

“We have seen that there are real problems between Albanians and Serbia, as we have known. But we will also go to Kosovo to learn about the Serbian minority there. So, yes we visit both countries to understand how minorities are treated and what their rights are”, said Self.

Meanwhile, the congressman from the ranks of the Democrats, Suhas Subramanyam, has raised the issue of education and unequal development as the main problems for Albanians in the Presheva Valley.

On the other hand, the mayor of the Municipality of Presheva, Ardita Sinani, has assessed the visit as important, saying that it shows that the issues of Albanians in the Valley are receiving international attention.

“Our impression from this meeting is extremely positive, where the congressmen have shown great interest, they have asked for concrete details on many issues that we touched upon during the discussions. This gives us hope that the voice of the Albanians of the Valley is being heard even more by international decision-makers across the Atlantic”, said Sinani.

While the only Albanian deputy in the Serbian Parliament, Shaip Kamberi, has emphasized that while Belgrade requires high standards for Serbs in Kosovo, the same are not being applied to Albanians in the Presheva Valley.
