FC Barcelona are reportedly very close to agreeing a new deal with Andreas Christensen, who remains out of contract this summer. The Danish defender returned to training on Wednesday but has spent most of the season injured.
Christensen, 30, has yet to finalize his future, although there are not many other concrete offers for him. He is reported to want to stay at Barcelona, but recently rejected a renewal offer due to the proposed low salary.
However, according to “MD”, although there is still no finalized agreement, the parties are very close to an agreement. The new contract is expected to be for two years and Christensen is prioritizing staying at Barcelona, even though he has financially higher offers from other clubs, as his family is based in the Catalan city and he does not want to leave.
It is also reported that Barcelona are looking at renewing him as a defense for the team, but if he can bring a big reinforcement in defense, the club could also consider selling him, albeit at a low price. The Catalans are also targeting the defender of Inter Milan, Alessandro Bastoni, to strengthen the rear, but it is still not clear if they will have the financial space for this transfer.
This season Christensen has played only 17 games, scoring one goal. In total, he accumulated only 515 minutes on the field, where he started only four games as a starter. Coach Hansi Flick has appreciated his professionalism, but frequent injuries have caused him to contribute little on the field this season.
