Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, participated in the roundtable organized to mark the International Day of the Family, where he praised the steps that the government led by him has taken to support thousands of families, according to him.
Kurti said that “the policy for the family and its well-being” would be the correct description of their government in marking the International Day of the Family, as he said that the family is not treated as something separate and outside development context, but in the entirety of sectoral policies and in the broad framework of decision-making.
“For the first time in Kosovo, we started with the application of allowances from which more than 400,000 children have benefited. When we started with 10 and 20 euros, there was ridicule and derision for such a policy, but only for the same to start the race with electoral commitments in larger numbers. Today, every family that meets the conditions receives an allowance of 30 to 45 euros, depending on the number of children… Meanwhile, we aim to double the allowances for children once again to 60 to 90 euros. In parallel with this, we have started with the allowances for mothers who have benefited, just like for children, we have found them to be 170 euros per month, currently it is 325.9 euros, but with the aim of increasing it to 500 euros per month”, Kurti said.
Further, Kurti stated that beyond the numbers, this is a development policy with social emancipatory elements, as he said that in his government, more than 100 thousand women have for the first time opened checking accounts in order to receive child allowances.
He further mentioned also subsidizing school books, subsidizing energy bills and grants and subsidies in agriculture from which he stated that thousands of families have benefited.
“We have reduced the costs of families by directly subsidizing school books and school materials, with more than 400 thousand beneficiary students, with a process that avoids abuses and misuses and also by hiring hundreds of assistants for children with special needs but also by allocating scholarships for students… More than 200 thousand families have benefited from subsidizing energy bills in the middle of the 2022-23 year. Meanwhile, within the framework of the program for the protection of vulnerable consumers, another 90 thousand qualified families have benefited. In agriculture, there are over 120 thousand beneficiaries of subsidies and grants,” said Kurti.
This year, May 15 International Family Day in Kosovo is marked with the theme “Families, inequalities and children’s well-being”.
