Over 20 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours

Marine tracking data as well as Iranian state media reported that an average of 20 to 30 merchant ships and oil tankers have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz within 24 hours.

Ship movements are made under strict conditions, requiring authorization. Vessels must obtain permits and coordinate with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

Although there is beginning to be a significant flow of vessels, it remains a fraction of the pre-war volume of over 130 vessels per day.

The area is still heavily militarized. Ships attempting to transit without coordinating with Iran have been seized or forced to turn back.

In turn, the United States enforces a blockade on Iranian ports and has sanctioned Iran’s newly created strait authority, which attempts to collect transit fees for passage through the strait.
