British Prime Minister Starmer announces the continuation of the government of the country

Great Britain Prime Minister Keir Starmer told ministers today that he will “get on with governing” despite mounting pressure over the Labor Party’s latest election defeat and calls for him to resign, Anadolu reports.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting, he sought to stabilize his government after what he described as a “destabilizing” period for Westminster.

According to a statement from No. 10, he told ministers: “As I said yesterday, I take responsibility for these election results and I take responsibility for bringing about the change we promised”.

“The last 48 hours have been destabilizing for the government and this has a real economic cost for our country and for families. The Labor Party has a process to challenge a leader and this process has not been activated”, he said.

Starmer stressed that “The country is waiting for us to continue with governance. This is what I am doing and what we must do as a cabinet”. The comments come amid growing criticism within the Labor Party following the party’s election setbacks.

Communities Minister Miatta Fahnbulleh became the first government minister to resign, joining more than 70 Labor MPs who have called on the prime minister to resign immediately or draw up a timetable for leaving office.

Unrest deepened late on Monday evening when No. 10 replaced six assistant ministers who had resigned earlier in the evening, in what appeared to be an attempt to stabilize the lower ranks of the government as pressure on the prime minister intensified.
