Iran will not enter into a second round of negotiations with the US unless five confidence-building conditions are met, reports Anadolu.
Citing an informed source, the Fars news agency said Tehran considers these conditions to be the “minimum guarantees” needed to start any new negotiations with Washington.
According to the report, Iran’s conditions include “ending the war on all fronts, especially in Lebanon,” the lifting of sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets, compensation for war damages and recognition of Iran’s sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz.
The source said Iran has also informed Pakistani mediators that the continuation of the US naval blockade in the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman after the ceasefire has further strengthened Tehran’s mistrust of negotiations with the US.
The report adds that the conditions have been set only in the context of creating minimal confidence for the return to talks and that Tehran believes that new negotiations cannot begin without their practical implementation.
According to the Fars news agency, Iran presented the five conditions in response to what it described as a 14-point American proposal.
The report claims that the American proposal was “completely one-sided” and aimed at securing through negotiations objectives that Washington did not achieve. to carry out during the war.
The US and Israel launched attacks against Iran on February 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel and US allies in the Persian Gulf, as well as closing the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire came into force on April 8 brokered by Pakistan, but talks in Islamabad failed to produce a lasting agreement. The ceasefire was then extended by US President Donald Trump without a fixed deadline.
On Sunday, Iran sent Pakistan its response to a US proposal to end the war, but Trump rejected it as “totally unacceptable”.
